The Mission of any Rotary Club is “Service Above Self.”
And the Rotary Club of Highlands certainly adheres to that with all the community, national, and international projects that they participate in and support. Last month the Highlands Cashiers Players, Leadership Highlands and the Dana Faber Cancer Research Fund received financial support from the club. In addition, the club sponsored Dental Day, hosted the Academic Reception and the Athletic Banquet at the school, and the Golf Tournament at Highlands Country Club to benefit the Highlands Scholarship Fund. Through all of this Rotarians have fun.
There is a Rotarian Four Way Test: Is it the Truth? Is it Fair to all Concerned? Does it Build Goodwill and better Friendship? Will it be Beneficial to all Concerned? And Club President Christy Kelly added one more…Is it fun?
The summer season brings many more events that provide opportunity for fun! The Rotary July 4th Barbecue along with the raucous Duck Derby has become a Highlands tradition that no one wants to miss. Many Rotarians pitch in and work with Derek Taylor for the August 5K Twilight Run, ending at the Kelsey Hutchison Park for an outdoor concert. The Craft Beer Night in September is another evening for fun, fellowship and great tastings. All of these events raise money for projects for the community and beyond but none of these events are without great fun and fellowship. This group of people know how to have fun!
