August at Albert

August at Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library is anything but the Dog Days of Summer.

The library continues its torrid pace of activities with a calendar crammed with activities for all ages.

First off, all of the children enrolled in the Summer Reading Program are invited to an All-Day Ice Cream Party in the library’s Meeting Room on Friday, August 4. There’ll be a variety of ice cream flavors, all sorts of goopy toppings and sweet sprinkles, and, of course whipped cream. Even though it’s billed as the Summer Reading Program’s party, it’s really open to all children in the community.

Young people of all ages can participate in the meeting of The Lego Club, set for 3:45 P.M. Tuesday, August 8. It’s a chance for budding artists and engineers to indulge their imaginations and exercise their creative spirits.

At 3:00 P.M. Friday, August 11, everyone is invited to Balsam Mountain Trust’s Raptor Program. Sponsored by the Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust, this program will feature Balsam Mountain’s birds of prey, including owls, hawks, kestrels and, possibly, a bald eagle.

Highlands-Cashiers Players will present Playfest 2017 at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 17, in the library’s Reading Room. This free program is open to the public and will feature staged readings of short comedies.

Of course, the library continues to offer its vast collection of books, CD books, DVDs, and periodicals. Its free wireless service is open to everyone and is available 24 hours a day.
