On the Saturday of the Cashiers Leaf Festival, from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., October 8, the Cashiers Quilters will exhibit their many handcrafted quilted articles at Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library.
In addition to the items on display, there will be a raffle for a lovely quilt made by the group, a boutique with stitchery-related creations and a special silent auction consisting of historical quilts in varying stages of completion.
The historical quilts are from the 1930’s and include the newspaper from Birmingham, Alabama, used as a pattern to which some portions of the quilts are still attached. These would be appropriate for framing or finishing as an accent piece. It is fascinating to see how former generations used what was at hand for patterns and observe the amount of resourcefulness needed to produce the time-intensive quilting. The Cashiers Quilters will offer the individual pieces as silent auction items at the Exhibit until 3:30 p.m. October 8.
The Cashiers Quilters meets every Wednesday at the Cashiers United Methodist Church from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. The group enjoys sharing ideas and designs, classes on occasion, and spending time together while being productive. We support various community organizations with our finished projects.
All are welcome to join regardless of expertise, from beginner to accomplished. For more information, visit cashiersquilters.com.
