Fall Colors Art Show

October marks the end of the season for the Art League of Highlands-Cashiers.  It’s the month of the annual league-sponsored Fall Colors Fine Art Show.

The Highlands Civic Center is transformed into a gallery filled with original fine art of more than 30 local and regional artists.  Paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel, as well as photographs and mixed media pieces are on display, as well as wood turnings, ceramics, one-of-a-kind jewelry and textile art.

The indoor venue allows visitors to browse at their leisure without concern for the weather.  It is an excellent opportunity for the public to meet the artists and enjoy a large array of original fine art.  Ample free parking and free admission coupled with the quality of the pieces on display make this event a must-do.  This year visitors will be offered the opportunity to draw for gift certificates that can be used toward the purchase of art, if they are so inclined.  The two-day show will be held 10:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. Saturday, October 21, and Sunday, October 22.

Normally the Art League’s last monthly public presentation is in September, but this year there will be a bonus guest speaker in October.  The league is fortunate to  sponsor Grant Benoit, the Bascom’s current Community Artist in Residence.  He was also a 2016-17 Artist in Residence at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.  Mr. Benoit most recently led the Bascom’s Children’s Summer Art Camp with the assistance of Art League volunteers.

Mr. Benoit received his Masters of Fine Arts in Printmaking from Southern Illinois University in 2015 and his Bachelor of Studio Arts from Spring Hill College in 2012.  He exhibits nationally and internationally, most recently being selected to exhibit at the Printmaking Center of New Jersey, DEMO project in Springfield, Illinois, Williamson Museum in Wirral, England, and Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama.  The presentation, which is free and open to the public, will be in The Bascom atrium October 30 at 5:00 P.M., following a wine reception at 4:30 P.M.
