This discussion will focus on recent Supreme Court decisions involving the religious freedoms guaranteed in the First Amendment. Some suggest recent cases such as Greece v. Galloway (prayers allowed at public meetings) and Burwell v. Hobby Lobby (religious exemptions to “Obamacare”) have

undermined the Establishment Clause. Others, however, state that these cases actually protected the freedom of religion guarded by the Free Exercise Clause. We will explore the First Amendment’s history, recent Supreme Court actions, and the conflicts that can occur in these sometimes clashing religious freedoms.
