Highlands Falls Country Club will be rocking on Thursday evening, September 8, as patrons of the Highlands Historical Society celebrate Dazzlin’ Dahlias.

It’ll be a night of good food and competitive bidding, featuring the works four very talented artists have generously donated their art work for the Live Auction.

During July and August, we’ve told you about these artists.  Katherine Bell McClure is well-known in Atlanta and Highlands.  Her “Predawn Garden Tour” would enhance any home.  Ruthie Watts has wowed folks for years with her artistic flare, and her dazzling “Opening Night” is the perfect culmination of a lifetime of creation.

Physician and photographer Murphy Townsend revels in capturing the beauty of flowers with his camera.  You’ll love the intense colors of the dahlias he plucked from Carolyn Tanner’s garden when you’re the winning bidder of his work. Rounding out the donated art is the work of Cashiers resident Jill Wolfe. Jill is known for her prowess with the pallet knife.

The bidding will be fast and furious for any and all of these gorgeous pieces of art work.

Patrons will surely have a ball dancing to the toe-tapping tunes of Joe Gransden while surrounded by the beauty of dazzling dahlias from area gardens.  In addition to the gorgeous artwork mentioned above, there’ll be many more ways to show your support for HHS.

Buy your tickets now for a night of dinner, libations, and dancing.  Whether you’re an avid art collector, or just have an empty wall that needs a focal point, there’s a piece of art for you in the Dahlia Patron Party silent auction.

If you have procrastinated about buying your tickets, take action now.  Buy your tickets now by visiting highlandshistory.com or call Mary Ann Hardman at (706) 338-4848.

Get ready for the upcoming Dahlia Patron Party at Highlands Falls Country Club on Thursday evening, September 8.

Patrons will surely have a ball dancing to the toe-tapping tunes of Joe Gransden while surrounded by the beauty of dazzling dahlias from area gardens.  It’s also your opportunity to buy fabulous art from nationally-acclaimed artists, and enjoy a night of dinner, drinks, and dancing.  Whether you’re an avid art collector, or just have an empty wall that needs a focal point, there’s a piece of art for you in the Dahlia Patron Party silent auction.

Last month, we profiled artists Ruthie Watts and Katherine Bell McClure who are generously donating their artistry to benefit the Highlands Historical Society.

This month, let’s look at two other talented artists whose works will also be part of the silent auction.

Dr. Murphy Townsend is a urologist who grew up in the South, living in Atlanta for 15 years.  Photography has been a principal interest in his life since he got his first camera in the second grade.  He originally focused on portraiture until he bought a macro lens to photograph backlit x-rays for presentations at medical conferences.  He soon began to use this lens outside the classroom.  That opened up a whole new world of discovery for him as he photographed flowers and insects.  He considers the flowers’ hidden beauty that he found to be a good metaphor for life.

We agree, Murph. Your photograph of the dahlia from Carolyn Tanner’s garden is exquisite, preserving that temporal beauty forever.

Jill Wolfe is a Cashiers resident who draws her inspiration from the natural world. She uses palette knives almost exclusively in her paintings which vary from impressionistic to contemporary.

Her paintings often feature the magic of the colors as they swirl and blend together on the canvas.  Jill’s work has been featured at The Bascom Center for Fine Arts, Anne Irwin Fine Art, and Smitten.  We love Jill’s use of color and light, and we know you will, too.

So watch your mailbox for your invitation and put September 8 on your calendar for an evening of fun to benefit the Highlands Historical Society.  Or call (706) 338-4848.  With you there, the night will be sure to be dazzling!
