SUMMARY:Encounters with Creatives | Holland Van Gores\, Wood & Mixed Media Artist at The Lucy Clark Gallery & Studio
DESCRIPTION:(FREE) Meet and watch Holland Van Gores apply milk paint to his incredible wooden sculptures. \nHolland has spent the better part of his life working with wood. As a child\, he had access to his father’s workshop and was able to use the tools and supplies. Learning these skills early in life\, led him to choose a career in construction where he honed his skills in California before taking on construction work in remote Costa Rica and eventually the United States Virgin Islands. Holland and his family relocated to western North Carolina in 2012 where he built a studio surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest. He is constantly experimenting with forms and textures\, often inspired by organic themes. “Making something with my hands allows me to feel a connection to that piece\, giving it a purpose.” \nFavorites Count: 0

SUMMARY:Gallery Walk with Larry Ricci\, Woodwork Artist at Lucy Clark Gallery & Studio
DESCRIPTION:(FREE) Meet and talk with woodworking artist Larry Ricci during the Gallery Walk in July. \nOne of the greatest gifts Larry ever received was when his dad put tools in his hands when he was a kid. He was later inspired by the sculptural furniture of artist George Nakashima and visited the Nakashima studio often in the years that followed. After a 40+ year career in education\, he began working mostly with local\, highly figured hardwoods and burls to create unique pieces of art that maintain the organic beauty of the wood. The wood\, with its shape\, figure\, imperfections and voids\, is what draws his attention and curiosity. Sometimes the imperfections are what creates the greatest interest in studying the piece. Larry always attempts to balance form and function\, but sometimes one of those wins out. \nFavorites Count: 0

SUMMARY:Encounters with Creatives with Jeff Ripple\, Original Oil Artist at The Lucy Clark Gallery & Studio
DESCRIPTION:Jeff Ripple will be on hand to share his methods in original oil painting and more. \nJeff is dedicated to a poetic realism in landscape painting inspired by intriguing compositions and fleeting moments of emotive light in nature. His style involves carefully planned drawings\, a reliance on sketches and studies painted in nature to inspire studio work\, and a focus on luminous atmosphere. Evidence of a human presence is often absent or subordinated in his landscapes. He sketches and paints regularly outdoors to create field studies that often focus on skies\, light on the landscape\, water\, trees\, rocks or really anything that interests him\, refining those ideas in the studio with a focus on atmosphere and achieving depth. \n  \n(FREE) \nFavorites Count: 0

SUMMARY:Gallery Walk with Original Oil Artist Nan Davis at The Lucy Clark Gallery & Studio
DESCRIPTION:(FREE) The Gallery Walk in June will feature original oil artist Nan Davis. \nNan’s desire is to create beautiful paintings. With a degree in Art\, but a need for a steady income\, she worked in the corporate world for 25 years\, only painting on nights and weekends as time allowed. But for the past six years\, she has been able to paint full time\, gloriously spreading paint across blank canvases in awe of turning a feeling into a vision on a flat surface. Every day\, she returns to the canvas to play in color and light. She sees the light coming through foliage\, or the mountain vistas and she is called to create. Nan searches for a way to interpret something beautiful in a way that allows others to respond from their own experiences. \nFavorites Count: 0
