SUMMARY:Cashiers Plein Air Festival 2026 at The Village Green

SUMMARY:Youth Nature Series at The Village Green
DESCRIPTION:Building a Wild Bee Hotel by Jessica Blackburn \nBecome a backyard hero in our hands-on Wild Bee Hotel Workshop! Kids will discover the secret lives of solitary bees—nature’s gentle\, super-pollinators—while building their very own wooden nesting home. \nUsing natural materials like wooden frames and hollow stems\, participants will craft a safe haven to take home and hang in their gardens. We’ll learn why bees love “tunnel” homes and how to attract these fuzzy friends to your flowers. It’s the perfect mix of crafting\, nature science\, and outdoor fun for aspiring young conservationists! \nPresenter Bio: Jessica is a Stewardship Technician at Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust and a masters student at WCU where she studies botany. Prior to moving to Cullowhee\, she worked on a trail crew in California maintaining and restoring public access properties. Currently she teaches environmental education programs for local students in the area through Kids In Nature Programming at after-school organizations. Through her deep curiosity for the natural world Jessica educates the youth on how to learn about the land they recreate on and how to create minimal impacts upon it. \nFavorites Count: 0

SUMMARY:Groovin’ on the Green | The Wobblers at The Village Green
DESCRIPTION:We’re so excited to welcome The Wobblers back to the Commons Stage! \nFor over 13 years The Wobblers have been a cornerstone of the Upstate South Carolina music scene\, earning a dedicated cult following as one of the region’s most distinct and original-sounding acts. This powerhouse ensemble features a four-piece horn section\, piano\, organ\, guitar\, bass\, and drums\, delivering a high-energy performance that is as professional as it is soulful. \nTheir expansive repertoire is a dynamic mix of original compositions and eclectic\, soul-infused covers. Rooted in the spirit of New Orleans\, their sound blends brassy textures and “second line” rhythms—anchored by drummer Patrick Riley—with edgy jazz elements reminiscent of visionaries like Rahsaan Roland Kirk\, Sun Ra\, and Thelonious Monk. At any given moment\, their music might pivot to evoke the legendary songwriting of The Kinks\, The Band\, Elvis Costello\, or the indie-soul sensibilities of Dr. Dog and NRBQ. \nGroovin’ on The Green is FREE and takes place rain or shine on the Commons Lawn at The Village Green. Food and beverage vendors will be available at each concert and concert-goers are welcome to bring their own picnics and coolers. Please bring your own lawn chairs and blankets; personal tents are not allowed at Groovin’. \n\nGroovin’ on The Green is free and open to the public\, however\, donations are collected to directly support The Village Green\, a 501c3 nonprofit park system that relies on grants and donations to offer our programming. Your donation helps keep Groovin’ on The Green alive year after year! \n\n\n\n\nFavorites Count: 0

SUMMARY:Village Nature Series | Embracing the Dark at The Village Green
DESCRIPTION:Embracing the Dark- Light Pollution\, Health and the Environment with Stephan Martin \nFor more than a century\, artificial lighting has transformed our nights—brightening our homes\, streets\, and cities. But only recently have scientists begun to fully understand the hidden costs of this constant illumination. Light pollution is now recognized as a significant factor affecting wildlife behavior\, human health\, and the balance of our environment. In this talk\, we’ll explore why natural darkness is essential—not just for ecosystems\, but for our own physical\, mental\, and emotional well-being. We’ll look at how excessive nighttime lighting disrupts sleep cycles\, impacts animals\, and alters natural rhythms that have existed for millennia. We’ll also focus on practical solutions. You’ll learn simple\, effective ways to reduce light pollution at home and in your neighborhood—strategies that can improve your health\, lower energy costs\, and help restore the night sky for everyone. \nFavorites Count: 0

SUMMARY:HCFF | Trail Mix + Meet the Director at The Village Green
DESCRIPTION:Trail Mix (Winner: Audience Choice Award) + Meet the Director at The Village Green \nThe 2025 Audience Choice Award winner will be shown at the PAC in Highlands and at the Village Green in Cashiers on Saturday\, June 20th! The director and filmmaker Glenn Sweitzer will be at both events to discuss the film and answer questions. \nThe 50-minute documentary follows a 2\,000-mile journey from Georgia to Maine along the Appalachian Trail. The film focuses on the “transformative power of nature\,” interviewing a diverse range of hikers—including military veterans with PTSD\, grieving widowers\, and troubled teens—who seek healing and clarity in the wilderness. \nThe film began as a project in May 2018 and was partially inspired by the story of Cheryl Strayed’s book/movie Wild. What was initially curiosity became a strong pull\, a “calling” to go into the woods and interview some of the hikers and discover the source of their healing and transformation. \nFavorites Count: 0

SUMMARY:Village Nature Series at The Village Green
DESCRIPTION:Mindful Management of Common Invasive Plants \ninvasive plants destroy crucial habitat for wildlife\, trees\, and native plants\, while simultaneously threatening and dramatically reducing biodiversity. Demonstrating a holistic approach\, Raven shares successes in mechanical removal and management of common invasive plants. In addition to dramatically reducing the amount and severity of invasive plant infestations that treat the health and viability of our land\, forests\, and waterways\, the long-term costs and consequences of the work are undeniably less severe. They serve\, rather than harm\, the overarching system that sustains life. Holistic practices improve soil and water quality\, protect and restore rapidly diminishing habitat for a host of wildlife\, increased biodiversity of plant and animal life\, and create opportunities for native plant species to rebound and thrive. Raven demonstrates that mindful management is highly effective and improves the health and viability of the land and the life that depends on it. \nFavorites Count: 0
