The Highlands Marketplace is in full swing!

This local farmers’ market is held most Saturdays in Kelsey-Hutchinson Park, also known as Founders’ Park, from 8:00 A.M. until noon. Organizers say they see old friends coming by every week and are glad to meet some new ones, too.

You’ll see many of your favorite vendors as well as new faces and tents at the market this year. The talent and products offered are as diverse as the people who live in our mountains. Fish, fresh produce, eggs and honey come to the market from small farms in the area and are displayed next to a wide variety of colorful flowers. Keeping with the focus on the mountain community, area churches are there with items for sale to help raise funds for their various mission ministries.

Impress your friends and family with a mountain breakfast featuring baked goods of all types along with homemade jams and jellies to sweeten your day. Cakes, pies, and other desserts are all there for the choosing. You can even find locally made flavorings and extracts for your own baking.

The Highlands Marketplace is also home to artists of all types who love to share their creativity and vision. Decorate your home with handmade rugs, woven and wood art, photography, and paintings. The ages-old art of embroidery is represented as is quilting and jewelry-making.

The committee that organizes the marketplace is looking for new vendors – for more information or an application, contact Don Deal at (828) 342-8239.  As a shopper, don’t forget to stop by Founders’ Park Saturdays from 8 to 12. Get there early for the best selection.
