Highlands has always been and remains the place where we can all reconnect with the important things in life- beauty, traditions, love, caring, community-and on Saturday, November 29, we can add glistening lights, holiday cheer, and Santa to that list.
That’s when we all gather together to Light Up The Park at 6:00 P.M. at the Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park and usher in this wondrous season of love and hope for Peace on Earth.
The evening brims with holiday cheer as we mingle with friends, families, neighbors, and visitors awaiting the magical moment when Santa arrives and flips the switch to Light Up the Park. When those thousands of twinkling lights come on it feels like a warm hug as we bask in the glow.
If you love Hallmark Christmas movies, you know that the Christmas tree lighting ceremony is often the pivotal moment, and it certainly is here, but we also know how to build the scene with anticipation and fun. Sip steaming cups of hot chocolate, nibble on Christmas cookies, and lift your voices together in timeless carols, joined by the City Carolers who will be on hand helping with the program and filling the entire evening with festive song. They will stroll among us throughout the evening, adding much merriment for all.
A special guest will read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas as excitement builds for the arrival of the guest of honor-Santa Claus himself.
Listen for a hearty Ho, Ho, Ho as he arrives atop a fire truck. In a heartbeat, the jolly old elf joins the crowd and, with his magical Santa touch, lights up the park and the town.
Take a moment after the ceremony or in the days after to revisit this magical Christmas wonderland when things are quieter and enjoy the pure beauty of the scene. Stroll through town and enjoy the lights the Town of Highlands displays, and the storefronts and window displays lovingly created by local merchants. These displays rival those in larger towns, but there’s more to it than that. You can feel the love and camaraderie that went into each design and carefully placed ornament and light.
The Light Up the Park celebration is more than an event—it’s a memory-making tradition, a chance to gather in joy and fellowship, and the perfect way to usher in the holiday season.
