Anything spoken in French sounds delicious, decadent, or divine – or all the above.

The Center for Life Enrichment has dreamed up a franco-delight on December 3, 1:00-4:00 P.M. at the CLE Lecture Hall, 348 South 5th Street, Highlands. It’s a community winter welcome for an afternoon of Decoupage (découper, meaning, to cut). Get ready, joyful cut-ups. Let’s craft!

All you need to bring is a desire for holiday enjoyment along with a modest fee ($35 per person). You can fashion as many decoupage gifts as your heart desires. Materials will be provided, which include inspiring surfaces (seashells and wooden tag discs with drilled holes for ribbon/string). You’ll apply elegant paper napkin snips and torn pieces with an easy-to-use adhesive. Bring any of your own napkin designs if you wish. And, if so inclined, wear working clothes or bring an apron.

Anyone of any age of any skill level (who plays well with others and scissors) can participate. Bring a friend, a parent, kids, and grandkids. Four-leggers should be left at home lest they find napkin snips and glue delicious.

The craft project is simple, fun, a perfect medium, and it gives us all something to do on a likely dreary day. Plus, you will have an array of lovely presents: ornaments, holiday hostess gifts, or stocking stuffers for family and friends. Come on, who can resist anything French and fun?

If cooking is your wheelhouse, join the free CLE holiday cookie exchange, December 17, from 10:00 A.M. to Noon at the CLE Lecture Hall. Sign up by December 10. Bring a large cookie tin for transport. Everyone should make enough to have 2-3 cookies for each participant. Exchange recipes too. Send in your recipes for sharing. Join this CLE community event. They’ll have hot chocolate and coffee and cookies, of course. Wear holiday attire. It’s another free CLE escape from winter doldrums.

Art, gifts, cookies, and socializing. Hooray for CLE and the holidays. Joyeux Noël!
