Description

King Louis XIV of France said “fashion is the mirror of history.” And in the early 20th century, during transatlantic travel on one of the famous “floating palaces,” fashion told an extraordinary tale of luxury and wealth. With the backdrop of stunning ‘gilded age’ images, this lecture will combine stories of Edwardian fashions and glamorous personalities (including an ancient Egyptian queen) onboard the RMS Titanic, revealing a unique view into this opulent era. Also explore behindthe-scenes intrigues from the designer of the Oscar-winning film “Titanic” about creating hundreds of elegant costumes with images from the recent “Titanic” costume exhibition at Biltmore. Presenter: Cornelia Powell is an author, wedding folklorist and costume historian. She entertains audiences from Biltmore to Winterthur with her fashionable “history lessons” sharing how clothes throughout history have a revealing tale to tell about who wore what and, curiously, why! Cost:  $25/$35 Coordinator: Alice Jackson
