After a long winter, the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau is ready to spring into action with two upcoming events for all ages. Join us for a Star Party on April 24 and MayFest on May 16 at the Club’s headquarters on Frank Allen Road in Cashiers.

The Star Party will take place on Friday, April 24 at 7:30 P.M., inviting stargazers of all ages to enjoy an evening of discovery under the stars. This free community event is hosted in partnership with Western Carolina University’s Department of Chemistry and Physics as part of the North Carolina Science Festival Statewide Star Party.

Astronomy faculty from WCU will provide telescopes to view the Moon, Mars, star clusters, and distant galaxies. They will also teach participants how to find constellations and lead activities for children and families. This event offers a wonderful opportunity to learn about outer space and how to safely use scientific equipment. Attendees are encouraged to dress warmly for an out-of-this-world experience!

MayFest will take place on Saturday, May 16, from Noon to 3:00 P.M., bringing an afternoon of connection, celebration, and community spirit. This free event is organized by the Club to express gratitude for the community’s ongoing support and involvement. Nearly 40 local nonprofits and businesses will join as community partners, offering engaging educational activities centered around the theme “Fun with Purpose.”

Attendees can look forward to a special guest appearance from MAMA the lifesaving helicopter, the Jackson County SWAT team, and even llamas. With delicious food, live music, and activities throughout the afternoon, this event promises to be a lively kickoff to the summer season. Join BGCP and all the amazing community participants that make this event possible for a sun-filled day celebrating the strength of our community.

Don’t miss these opportunities to connect, learn, and celebrate with your neighbors. Whether you are gazing at the stars at the Star Party or enjoying the activities at MayFest, the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau invites everyone to join in the fun and make lasting memories. Mark your calendars and be part of these special events that highlight the curiosity, creativity, and community spirit of the Plateau.
