Join local herpetologist Kyle Pursel and learn how to identify snake species native to the greater Highlands area. Learn how to identify the differences between the local venomous and non-venomous snakes, the ecological role snakes play in our area and what you can do on your property to live with snakes while reducing your encounter risks. Presenter: Kyle Pursel, Herpetologist, has an M.S. in Biology from Western Carolina Univeristy. In his studies, he has focused on the ecology and natural history of various reptile and amphibian species in Upstate New York and Western North Carolina. He currently works for the HighlandsCashiers Land Trust as Stewardship Coordinator and he has volunteered with the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission on various herpetological projects, including snake, turtle and salamander surveys.
