Mountaintop Rotary’s Art and Craft Show isn’t your run-of-the-mill art and craft show and should perhaps be more appropriately rebranded as an art extravaganza, but then again, labels defy this two-day festival, which stands out from the crowd.

That’s why you should mark your calendars now and plan to attend at least one of the two weekend shows held at Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park on June 27 and 28, or August 29 and 30. They proudly declare that this is “not just a show, it is a destination,” and once you’ve visited, you’ll know that’s true.

You’ll find beautiful, handcrafted pieces that celebrate the creativity and heritage of our region, but this isn’t just a casual craft fair. It’s a juried show, which means the artists are carefully selected, and prizes are awarded in several categories. The result? Some of the most talented and respected artists from across the Southeast and beyond will be right here in our backyard.

While art is the main attraction, the whole day is a celebration for the entire family. There will be entertainment throughout the day, local bites to sample, a kids’ zone featuring crafts, and the ever-popular Teddy Bear Hospital hosted by the Highlands-Cashiers hospital, and sip and stroll afternoons giving the grown-ups a chance to browse and relax.

It’s easy to simply enjoy the weekend, but it’s worth remembering that this is Mountaintop Rotary Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Every dollar raised goes right back into our community. This year’s proceeds will support local youth programs. Youth programs they have supported in previous years have included the Highlands School Fund, Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau, Literacy & Learning Center, PAC Educational Theatre, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cashiers-Highlands, along with scholarships, Shop with a Cop, and more.  Supporting this show truly means supporting our kids and our future.

Admission is free, and who doesn’t love free admission, though donations are always appreciated. Mountaintop Rotary is grateful for the many sponsors who help make it all happen, and they’re always happy to welcome new ones. You can reach them at highlandsartshow@gmail.com or through their Facebook page.

And if you think this club slows down after August, think again. They’re already gearing up for their second annual pickleball tournament in September, because around here, community spirit and involvement don’t take a season off. This tournament will also include rounds for children.

Mountaintop Rotary exemplifies this power of commitment to our community. If you’re interested in learning more about how you can get involved and contribute to their impactful work, consider joining their meetings or visiting highlandsartshow.com.
