Easter has a way of arriving softly on the Plateau, not with fanfare, but with the quiet confidence of a season that knows it’s bringing something good.
Long before the first egg is found or the first chocolate rabbit loses an ear, there’s a sense of promise in the air – a feeling that the world is stretching awake again.
For children, Easter still carries that shimmer of mystery. The Easter Bunny remains a perfectly reasonable possibility, and the appearance of bright eggs tucked into unexpected places feels like proof that magic hasn’t gone anywhere. For adults, the holiday offers something just as meaningful: a reminder that renewal doesn’t have to be dramatic. Sometimes it’s as simple as a morning spent outdoors, watching joy unfold.
Few traditions capture that feeling better than an Easter egg hunt.
There’s a particular kind of excitement that builds as children gather with their baskets, eyes wide, and feet ready to fly. When the search begins, the world narrows to color and possibility – a flash of pink behind a tree root, a glint of yellow in the grass.

Families often create their own backyard hunts, but the Plateau’s community celebrations add a sense of shared belonging.
This year, several local gatherings will take place on Saturday, April 4, each offering its own version of springtime delight.
In Highlands, the Recreation Park at 600 North Fourth Street will host a hunt at 10:00 A.M., with 2,000 toy and candyfilled eggs hidden for children ages 0–9. Participants will be grouped by age, and each group will have a special prize egg waiting to be found.
Cashiers will hold its hunt at 11:00 A.M. on The Village Green Commons Lawn, 160 Frank Allen Road. Children will also be divided into age groups, with ages 9–11, ages 5–8, and children 4 and under. The Easter Bunny will make a special appearance for photos on the Commons Stage, and the Literacy Council of Cashiers will be on hand passing out complimentary books to all children who attend.
The Sapphire Valley Resort in Sapphire is planning an egg‑coloring contest on Friday, April 3. The celebration continues on Saturday, April 4, with a community Easter Egg Hunt from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M., where families are invited to bring baskets, enjoy refreshments, and capture photos with the Easter Bunny. Events are held at the Community Center at 127 Cherokee Trail; additional details are available at (828) 743-7663 or at sapphirevalleyresorts.com.
