From curious kids to lifelong learners, everyone is welcome to explore the beauty and biodiversity of the Highlands Nature Center this spring.
Starting April 2, our doors are open Thursday through Saturday, 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., with hands-on experiences for all ages.
April brings the exciting BioBlitz Boogy!, a chance to become a wildlife explorer right in our own backyard. As part of this nationwide Citizen Science event, participants are invited to venture out along our beautiful walking trails, snap photos of the plants and animals they spot, and upload them to the iNaturalist app. Each contribution helps researchers and scientists better understand the rich biodiversity of our region. Whether you spend a few minutes or a few hours outside, your observations play a part in uncovering the secrets of our local ecosystems.

As May rolls in, it’s time to Hop, Slither, Slide! Herpetology Season kicks off, bringing the fascinating world of reptiles and amphibians to life. Visitors can meet our Education Specialists, learn about the ecoEXPLORE challenges offered in May, and get a sneak peek at the upcoming Salamander Meanders. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to step into nature together, sparking curiosity and appreciation for the remarkable creatures that call our forests and streams home.
Spring is also the perfect time to plan for summer adventures. Our Nature Camps are filling quickly, but there are still a few spots left in select sessions. Families can visit our website to see what’s available, or join the waitlist for any camps that are already full. From hands-on nature exploration to unforgettable outdoor experiences, our camps offer children the chance to connect with the natural world in a fun, educational setting.
Whether you’re stopping by for a day of discovery, participating in a citizen science project, or planning your child’s summer adventure, the Highlands Nature Center has something for everyone this spring. For more information on programs, hours, and camp registration, visit highlandsbiological.org/nature-center. We can’t wait to see you outside exploring!
