Coral might be Trish Foor’s favorite color this week. Next week, this talented Highlands’ watercolorist might fall in love with cobalt blue – the week after, perhaps a range of pastels.

All these colors puddle into transparent, translucent, or luminous pools. Each one speaks to Trish in expressive ways, just as the pigment does. When it’s all said and painted, the pigment, puddles, and pools become delightful portraits of creatures and plants spotlighted in her surrounding forest.

Among her most popular images are deer, fox, bird, bear, owl, bee, and flower. You’ll find her lovely flora and fauna on greeting cards, calendars, and logos. Someday soon, there might be an illustration of a children’s book.

Before she plunged into painting full-bore, she was a speech pathologist. She has a kind, compelling voice and a sweet energy that people are drawn to. It’s that joyful, almost musical rhythm that helps people speak. And that transfers into Nature’s sequences, pulses, and patterns.

Trish says, “If it (my painting) brings me joy, I hope it brings joy to others.”

It may surprise you that this talented painter never went to art school. Except for a few high school classes, she is self-taught.

How did Trish become so passionate about watercolor and calendars and greeting cards?

“A few years ago,” she says, “My mom passed. I made thank-you cards for all the friends who cared for the family. A neighbor called and commented on her thank-you card. I didn’t think the hand-painted cards were going further than just a thank-you, but recipients were taken by them. Friends suggested I design a variety of greeting cards and sell them. I did, and now The Bascom and the Highlands History Society feature my work.”

Her sales are largely sold by word-of-mouth, the majority of which being her annual calendar. People love buying a small, affordable, unique work of art. Her calendar and cards can be framed and given as a gift. Or you can just buy them, frame them, and give them to yourself. Trish’s cards are guaranteed to launch a smile and boost a spirit.
