The Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau hosted its first-ever art show, “Drawn to the Plateau,” a one-night-only youth exhibition presented in partnership with The Bascom: A Center for the Visual Arts and sponsored by the North Carolina Arts Council’s Grassroots Art Program Grant.
Typically home to after-school programming for local children and teens, the BGCP Club was transformed into a vibrant, gallery-style experience showcasing the creativity and talent of its members. Families, supporters, and community members enjoyed hors d’oeuvres while exploring a thoughtfully curated exhibition featuring more than 164 two-dimensional works and a striking collection of ceramic pieces. Guests experienced a range of artistic styles and mediums, including multimedia, pop art, watercolor paintings, wire sculptures, and more.
In preparation for the event, The Bascom generously volunteered their time and expertise, working directly with members from the Cashiers, Highlands, and Teen Clubs. The Bascom’s Community Engagement team carefully matted each piece and installed the collection, helping transform the Club into a professional exhibition space. With walls assembled, curtains hung, and each artwork intentionally displayed, the venue became an engaging gallery celebrating the collective work of these young artists.

“Drawn to the Plateau” reflected the power of encouragement, creativity, and collaboration. The evening highlighted not only artistic talent but also the confidence and pride that emerge when youth are given opportunities to express themselves. The Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau extends heartfelt thanks to The Bascom staff, the Art League of Highlands-Cashiers, and the North Carolina Arts Council for making the evening possible.
Plans are underway to expand “Drawn to the Plateau” to The Bascom’s Education Gallery, offering the broader community another opportunity to experience the creativity and growth of these remarkable young artists. The exhibition will be on display through June 6, with participating artists recognized during The Bascom’s Spring Exhibition Reception on March 21.
The Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau serves youth from kindergarten through 12th grade in Cashiers and Highlands. Recognized nationally as one of the top 20 Clubs out of 5,200, BGCP offers programs focusing on academic success, character development, and healthy lifestyles, ensuring all children have access to a safe, supportive environment after school and during summer months.
