The Church of the Good Shepherd’s Outreach Grant Committee is currently conducting a structured review process to ensure that grant recipients serving the Highlands–Cashiers area align with the the mission of the church. The grant recipients will be announced on or around August 1.
Eligible applicants must be IRS-designated 501(c)(3) nonprofits that primarily serve the Highlands–Cashiers Plateau. Priority is given to organizations that do not duplicate existing services and whose work aligns with their stated mission.
Each applicant is paired with a committee liaison who serves as a point of contact throughout the grant process, delivers grant checks to awarded organizations, and provides follow-up during the year. Liaisons will also contact prior-year recipients to remind them that applications for the current year are available.
The Outreach Grant Committee supports local nonprofits as part of the church’s mission to reflect God’s love through faith and action, with church members also serving the community through volunteer and leadership roles.
These funds, made possible through sales at the Church-owned Bazaar Barn in Cashiers, support practical needs such as meals, transportation, and family assistance – small but vital steps that make a lasting difference in people’s lives.
For instance, here’s what Highlands Country Club Golf Pro and Cashiers Valley Preschool spokesman Ken says about the church’s generosity:
“Without support from The Church of the Good Shepherd, Cashiers Valley preschool would not be able to fulfill our mission of providing early childhood care and education to Cashiers and surrounding communities. The Church of the Good Shepherd helps to fund projects and operations support. Just as valuable to us, they offer assistance with governance and business expertise. Having the church as a partner is invaluable for our success.”
Guided by Matthew 25:35–36, the outreach program supports 501(c)(3) organizations working in food insecurity, shelter and housing, healthcare and wellness, human services, education, and environmental protection – primarily serving the Plateau.
Over the past 38 years, the church has awarded more than $3.7 million in outreach grants, strengthening our community and offering hope and dignity.
