There is something especially lovely about a September evening in Sky Valley, when the mountains soften in the fading light and friends gather beside the lake for a good cause. This fall, the Sky Valley Garden Club invites the community to enjoy just such an evening at its annual fundraiser, “Flower Artistry Takes Flight” Dahlias by the Lake.
The event will be held September 15 from 5:30–7:30 P.M. at the Sky Valley Country Club, with a beautiful lakeside setting, delicious food, music by Blue Jazz, and dazzling dahlias raised with care by Garden Club members. Tickets are $60 per person, with reservations limited to 110 guests.
Dahlias by the Lake has become a favorite tradition, celebrating the beauty of the season while supporting work that makes a lasting difference close to home. Funds raised support beautification projects throughout the City of Sky Valley and scholarships for Rabun County High School seniors planning to study horticulture or environmental sciences in college. Currently, three students have each received $3,500 toward their education.
The Sky Valley Garden Club is rooted in learning, service, and a shared love of gardening. Monthly meetings feature lunch and guest speakers covering a variety of gardening topics. Throughout the year, members also lend their talents to projects that brighten public spaces and encourage the next generation of environmental stewards.
Past presidents remember the evening fondly. Joy Akin calls the annual gala “always fabulous,” citing the wonderful food, music, lake setting, and beautiful dahlias. Cheryl Beckert describes it as “a beautiful evening, overlooking the lake and watching a glorious sunset, amidst the dahlias.”
Current president Debbie Dalhouse says the event also showcases generosity and imagination: “It’s always amazing to see the incredible creativity of our volunteers who make this an unforgettable evening that supports our neighborhood and community.”
Guests can bid on silent auction treasures including gift baskets, jewelry, pottery, artwork, handcrafted items, gift cards to area attractions and restaurants, golf rounds, clothing, wine, and more. Credit cards will be accepted for the silent auction and cash bar.
To reserve your place, make checks payable to Sky Valley Garden Club for $60 per person and mail to 774 Sky Valley Way #269, Sky Valley, GA 30537. Include each attendee’s name on the “for” line. The reservation deadline is September 7 or the sellout date, whichever comes first.
