Rotaract Charter

Exciting plans are under way to form a Rotaract Club for young adults in Highlands.
This past summer, Taylor Parrish expressed interest in becoming more involved in the community he grew up in, and approached Rotary Club of Highlands President Christy Kelly (his aunt) for ideas. He felt that a number of others would also be interested in giving back to this special community through community service.
What began as a family conversation grew as Christy learned that the Rotary International Rotaract program was not exclusive to college campuses, and is available as a community-based organization for the post college age group
as well.
While Taylor met with friends and enrolled an initial group, Christy met with the boards of each of our two local Rotary Clubs, and they enthusiastically agreed to jointly charter a Rotaract Club in Highlands. Using social media to get the word out, several meetings took place and a number of interested young adults became involved. The Charter Application has now been sent to Rotary International, and the following officers have been elected: Taylor Parrish, President; Madison Wright, Vice President; Kasey Klodasky, Secretary; and Faye Wurm, Treasurer. Other Charter Members include Lynsi Wavra, David Parrish, Christopher Hall, Laura Kremser, Sayward Thompson, Courtney Scarborough, Robbie Wilson and Jessica Silver. The club is open to any young adult who has an interest in community service and the ideals of Rotary International. A Rotaract Club’s purpose is to provide opportunity for young adults to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal and professional development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
Individual Rotary clubs sponsor Rotaract clubs and offer guidance and support, making the Rotaract clubs true “partners in service” and key members of the family of Rotary. You will also find more information about Rotaract at www.rotary.org.
