Random Acts of Kindness

J. McLaughlin of Highlands is a true-blue friend to the horses of Carpe Diem Farms, hosting a Sip and Shop party from 1:30 to 4:30 P.M. Saturday, July 29, to benefit the farm.

The adage, “you just never know” is something that occurs, generally out of the blue in the life of Carpe Diem Farms.

Without notice a generous donor will send a check, someone will drop by to volunteer, or call to offer help.  For the third year, J. McLaughlin’s Highlands store has offered to help support the horses of CDF.

At Carpe Diem Farms we go about our daily work with little to no fanfare.  The herd of nine horses, the backbone of our experiential programming, requires a lot of work and daily expense.  If all are healthy a day of feed, hay, and, care costs more than two hundred dollars.  We have one paid staffperson; volunteers do everything else.

Being off the beaten path, by design, makes us a less visible charity, or so we think.  And then, a random act of kindness, no accident, a gift from stranger, you just never know.

The J. McLaughlin philosophy is one of giving back to the communities in which they have stores.  They will host a “Sip and Shop,” Saturday, July 29, from 1:30 to 4:30 P.M.  A percentage of the sales will be donated to CDF to help provide for our herd.  I feel proud and humbled that J. McLaughlin recognizes our contribution to the community and again wants to do something to help.  You never know who is paying attention to what you are up to.

Please stop by J. McLaughlin, 318 Main Street, July 29, between 1:30-4:30 P.M., enjoy a “Sip while you Shop” and learn a little more about Carpe Diem.  I’ll be there and I hope you will, too.
