Wildflowers, an enchanted cove and a hidden waterfall all are on the agenda this season as part of Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust’s 2016 Eco Tour line-up.
Our mission is to protect valuable land resources for all generations and we believe the best way to communicate the importance of our work is by educating those who love these mountains. One of our favorite ways to do that is to get outside and explore with our Eco Tour program.
Our Eco Tour adventures are guided by leaders in their field and give you a passport to some places you can’t explore on your own and a deeper look at some old favorites. Eco Tours are a free benefit for HCLT members, we only ask for a small donation to help cover their food costs. For new friends, we ask for a $35 donation which includes the guided hike, lunch on the trail and a one-year membership to HCLT! Our Balsam Mountain Preserve Expedition will be held on June 21. This visit will include a hike through the renowned landscape that some call a living laboratory for scientific research and exploration as well as a visit to the on-site nature center to meet the wildlife that reside there.
On July 5, we’ll take A Walk through Time – From Sargent to Sunset. Visit the historic Sargent property, HCLT’s first conservation easement and home to a number of rare plants, then trek up to Sunset Rock, one of HCLT’s oldest owned properties.
Join us on July 28 for a trek to the Heart of Horse Cove. Get a rare chance to explore some of the treasures of Horse Cove, an enchanting community rich in cultural and natural history.
On August 17, it’s a visit to Firewater. Explore this private conserved property located near the famous Panthertown Valley and discover a hidden waterfall on Robinson Creek.
Our Bearwallow Mountain Excursion will be staged on October 20. Crowned with a grassy meadow, the mountain features a view that encompasses some of the Southern Appalachian’s highest peaks. We are proud to partner with our colleagues at Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy to explore this property.
