Bye-bye, Chips and Yips

Nothing is more exasperating than hitting a couple of quality shots on a par 4 or 5 near the green and ruin the hole by blading or shanking your chip.

Don’t get too bummed out, this is a very common occurrence for golfers of all skill levels, from weekend duffers to touring pros.  Even Tiger bladed a few in a tournament a couple of years ago.  He had the chipping yips.  I am battling them right now and am just coming out of it.

The best thing to do is take care of it early before it gets out of hand.

Here’s what to do:

 Don’t hunch over at address. It shortens your arms, resulting in bladed chips. Stand taller with the bottom edge of your club just below the middle of the ball. Not on the ground.

Let your arms lengthen as you swing through the ball.  This will help you brush the grass in front of the ball making solid contact.

Turn your belt buckle= a bit towards your target as you swing through.  Don’t just freeze your hips and flip your hands at the ball.

Do all this nice and smooth and you should see better results.
