The Bird Barn, a Cashiers tradition for 20 years, is now in its new location at Unit 5, Village Walk.
For owners Sandy and LeRoy Parr and their official shop dog, Kaysee, it feels like coming home. This is where it all began 20 years ago, so they and their customers feel right at home in their new space.
Walking into this store is a nature lover’s delight. Everyone loves the sounds of birds singing, so it’s a special treat to walk in and hear the soothing sounds of bird songs softly emanating from the music system. Those happy sounds set the tone for your entire shopping experience here.
Naturally, this is your go-to place for all things wild bird-related. There are feeders and bird houses of every type and description for all your feathered friends, many of which are handcrafted by local artisans. You’ll even find a vast array guaranteed to outsmart those wily, pesky squirrels. Don’t forget to pick up your bird seed. They offer many mixes, including a special finch mix and a shell free mix, but their all-time best seller is the ever popular “Bird Barn Mix”, a Cashiers-Highlands area staple for 40 years.
The Bird Barn also offers a large selection of other nature related items – wind chimes, adorable stuffed birds with authentic sounds, chainsaw bears, Dean Crouser mugs and plates, pottery, cards, napkins and rain gauges. Other gift items including Tervis Tumblers and Wood Wick candles are also available.
And field guides – did we mention field guides? If you want to know anything about any of our native trees, plants, birds, wildflowers, snakes or mushrooms, you’ll find an authoritative guide here. How about a guide to help you recognize animals tracks? Yes, you’ll find that here, too.
No mention of The Bird Barn would be complete without a mention of their customer service, which is the hallmark of their 20 years in business. If you need a feeder or bird house repaired, ask them about it and they’ll do their best to help you out. Special orders are no problem and they will go to great lengths to find an item for you. You might even find when visiting with them that they’ll offer the occasional prayer or hug – whatever you need, they’re there for you.
