Lilac (syringa vulgaris) is a species of the olive family (oleaceae).  If you need to make amends, you offer an olive branch, right?  If someone hands you a lilac branch, they must really want to be in your good favor.   Lilacs are one of the most popular fragrant plants in the world.  If they seem “old fashioned,” it’s because …

White-Breasted Nuthatch

Drawn to both seed and suit feeders, this acrobatic climber is often seen upside down on limbs and tree trunks. Their insistent nasal “yammering” makes their sleek black, gray and white plumage easy to spot. The Red-breasted and Brown-headed Nuthatches are smaller darts in the woods.

Bistro on Main

The Main Street Inn has been welcoming guests to Highlands for over 125 years. Her graceful lines were restored to their 19th century glory with a complete renovation in 1997. Her kitchen has also undergone a series of changes over the decades, and its latest incarnation, Bistro on Main, has been quietly building a regional reputation, thanks to overwhelmingly positive …

The Busiest Musician in Town

When I researched Lee Ladensack’s background for an entertainment feature, I unearthed as many astounding art credits as music.   Turns out he’s a true Renaissance man who, on top of managing two powerhouse jobs, is a devoted dad and one of the busiest musicians in town with over 160 music gigs booked this year and counting.  During the week he …

Selznick has purchased the rights to the blockbuster novel …
