The Highlands Cashiers Players are presenting the play, “Calendar Girls” in May of 2019. The true story of this play is one of women of power!
In 1999, a group of women, members of the Women’s Institute in England, stepped out of their comfort zone to raise money to purchase a new couch for folks in the waiting area in the local hospital. This after the husband of one of the members goes through chemotherapy.
In the past years, the WI created a calendar of different scenes as their annual fundraiser. These fundraising attempts might raise £60 or £70. For the settee they want for the waiting area, they need £1,000! Annie convinces the ladies to pose tastefully nude for a fundraiser calendar.
These are not young girls. They are not beauty queens. But they are women of pride, women with the courage to do something that challenges themselves while helping others.
HCP and director Ricky Siegel will hold auditions for the play January 13 at 3:00 P.M. and Jan. 14 at 5:30 P.M. at the Highlands Performing Arts Center. They will be looking for 10 women aged 20 to 60 and four men of similar age.
