Late August is the perfect time to start winding up our summer season and look forward to fall. One of the season’s most enjoyable weekends is the Mountaintop Rotary Art and Craft Show at Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park on August 29 and 30. This year marks their 20th year of bringing the finest artisans to the plateau for this destination event.
June’s shows set an impressive standard, and we can’t wait for the upcoming August festivities, where more than 120 talented artisans will once again grace the park for this juried exhibition.
As the days grow shorter and the warmth of summer begins to fade, we feel a sense of nostalgia for the beautiful autumn days ahead. Picture sipping your morning coffee on the deck, enjoying leisurely fall cookouts, embarking on invigorating hikes, and cozying up by the fire as the evenings cool down. Why not take a leisurely stroll through the booths and discover handcrafted treasures to enhance your late summer and fall gatherings?
Perhaps you need a new charcuterie board for your Labor Day celebration? Keep an eye out for new table linens and candles to complete your festive look. Imagine the gentle sound of wind chimes dancing in the fall breeze, and the warmth of pottery vases and coffee mugs adorned with muted earth tones or vibrant autumn motifs, bringing comfort to your gatherings. A handwoven shawl or a knitted scarf could provide the cozy warmth you crave on those brisk autumn mornings.
These handcrafted treasures steal the spotlight, but there’s so much more for the whole family to enjoy. The beloved sip and stroll returns, featuring local brews from Western Carolina Brew and Wine, and The Secret Garden will be serving up delicious food.
Musical entertainment will set the mood on both days, and the expanded hands-on kids’ zone promises to delight youngsters with activities like the Teddy Bear Hospital and opportunities to create their own magic with Legos or bead bracelets. Who knows? The next medical professional or award-winning artist might just be inspired right here.
While everyone gathers for the art, music, food, and fun, it’s important to remember that this event also serves as the Mountaintop Rotary Club’s largest fundraiser of the year. Every dollar raised supports vital local youth programs. In past years, they have supported Highlands School Fund, the Boys & Girls Club of the Plateau, PAC Educational Theatre, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cashiers-Highlands, scholarships, Shop with a Cop, and many more.
So come join the fun and enjoy the onset of autumn in the mountains.
