From Scraps to Ravishing

Allan Maxwell began learning the upholstery trade at his grandmother’s knee.
She, Connie Maxwell, was a professional seamstress. In addition to designing wedding and prom dresses, she created eye-popping costumes for the Augusta Ballet. She also upholstered furniture. Years later her industrial sewing machine was bequeathed to Allan and it’s one of his core creative instruments to this day.
In addition to other part time endeavors, Allan works at Cabin Couture (cabincouturehighlands.com) refurbishing and reupholstering vintage furnishings among other things. He’s one of those gifted guys who can take a handful of scraps and turn it into a ravishing creation.
Making use of oddments and remnants is a welcome challenge to this self-taught designer.
“I have a design sense, an aesthetic eye with specific taste,” he said. “Whenever we at Cabin Couture rearrange furniture in the showroom or for clients I have that knack.”
When he’s not coordinating a retail display, he’s using his knack to help people re-assemble what they already have into a stunning grouping.
He tosses in a few new embellishments and Voila… an intriguing fresh bedroom, living room, or dining milieu is born. He’s a client-on-a-budget’s best friend.
