There’s a certain kind of energy that settles into downtown Clayton when Ramshackle returns each summer.
It’s the sound of music drifting through the streets, the laughter of friends gathered together, and the unmistakable feeling that something special is happening.
On June 6, Ramshackle Street Festival celebrates its third anniversary – and by all accounts, it just keeps getting better.
What began as a spirited community gathering has grown into one of the region’s most anticipated events, drawing thousands to Clayton for a full day of music, food, and hometown charm. Presented by the Clayton Merchants and Business Association along with the City of Clayton and generous sponsors, Ramshackle has become the unofficial kickoff to summer in the mountains.
The festival begins at 10:00 A.M. and carries on throughout the day until 9:00 P.M., offering something for everyone – and best of all, it’s completely free to attend.
Music is at the heart of Ramshackle, and this year’s lineup promises a full day of performances from a variety of talented local and regional acts. From early afternoon sets to evening excitement, the rhythm of the festival builds as the day unfolds.
A special highlight for 2026 is the recognition of Jake McCracken and the Blueridge Lonesome as Ramshackle’s Rising Star. Their growing reputation and authentic mountain sound make them a perfect fit for this honor – and a must-see performance for festival attendees.
As the sun begins to dip behind the Blue Ridge peaks, the main stage comes alive with an unforgettable headlining performance. Bringing a combination of Texas grit and Alabama fire, The Vegabonds and Grady Spencer will take the stage at 7:15 P.M.
Hailing from Fort Worth, Grady Spencer is known for his laid-back charm and soulful take on rock and roll. Paired with The Vegabonds, who call Nashville and Greenville home, the collaboration promises a dynamic blend of individual favorites and shared performances that will bring the evening to a powerful close.
CMBA President Sonya Shook shares the community’s enthusiasm: “We look forward to having The Vegabonds and Grady Spencer on the main stage at Ramshackle. This event is our kickoff to summer and brings thousands to downtown Clayton for a day of music, vendors, and a showcase of our downtown merchants.”
And that’s part of what makes Ramshackle so memorable. Beyond the music, the streets are lined with artisan vendors, Clayton’s incredible restaurants, and local businesses opening their doors to welcome visitors. It’s a celebration of creativity, entrepreneurship, and the vibrant spirit of this mountain town.
Families will find a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where kids can play, friends can reconnect, and visitors can experience the very best of Clayton. Whether you stay for an hour or spend the entire day, Ramshackle invites you to slow down, look around, and take it all in.
It’s more than a festival, it’s a reflection of a community that knows how to come together and celebrate well.
