This July, the Highlands Performing Arts Center expands its commitment to arts education with a two‑day summer theatre camp designed to introduce young performers to the worlds of both stage and screen.
Offered through PAC Outreach, Acting for Camera + Stage gives students ages 7 through 18 a rare opportunity to explore two distinct performance disciplines in one immersive experience.
Held on the PAC Main Stage on July 23 and 24 from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., the camp blends hands‑on learning, creative exploration, and professional instruction. Campers may register for one or both days, though participation in both is encouraged. Tuition is $50 per day, per camper.
The program was developed by PAC’s educational theatre leadership team, Co‑Artistic Directors Lee Trevathan and Erik J. Bishop, who designed the camp to introduce young performers to the distinct demands of both mediums.
“PAC Outreach’s Acting for Camera + Stage Summer Camp offers students a unique opportunity to explore both live theater and on‑camera performance in one immersive experience,” says Lee. “While many programs focus on one discipline or the other, this camp introduces participants to the distinct skills required for both stage and screen, helping them become more versatile performers while building confidence, creativity, and communication skills.”
Across the two days, students will rotate through a series of acting exercises and scene‑based activities designed to strengthen performance technique and spark imagination. Workshops include monologue practice, commercial acting, camera close‑up work, silent‑acting challenges, and partner scenes. Instructors emphasize the differences between performing for a live audience and performing for the camera – how movement, voice, expression, and focus shift depending on the medium.
Lee and Erik led the camp, bringing deep experience in both theatre and film. Lee holds a BFA with Honors in Acting from London’s Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance and serves as PAC’s Director of Operations and Community Outreach. Erik, a longtime member of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, adds extensive on‑camera experience to the program.
Together, they create a supportive, energetic environment where beginners feel welcome and experienced young actors can stretch their skills.
