It’s hard to believe that Highlands Aerial Park is celebrating its third year. While it’s unquestionably a bona fide success, owners Karen and George Powell aren’t resting on their laurels.
As grandparents to seven, they know the importance of having even the littlest ones occupied; so they’re adding two new attractions for all ages. If you’re over 48 inches tall, you can hop on the giant swing that soars 60 feet into the forest.
Not up for that? No problem. How about a mule drawn hayride? The Halflinger draft mules, John and Henry, pull an 8-person wagon to an area next to an extraordinary waterfall that is on National Forest land. You can choose to hike down to the falls or let the wagon take you back to base camp. Prices for the wagon rides and swing will be inexpensive so entire families can afford to spend the day at the park.
The Powells understand not everyone will choose to take advantage of the zipline course. They even have what is called a “cold feet” policy. Should you get up on the platform and then change your mind, it’s perfectly fine. There is no walk of shame, no reason to feel intimidated. They want you to have fun.
Another way in which the Highlands Aerial Park differs from other zipline parks – if you don’t go, you don’t owe. That’s right. Things happen and they understand.
“We want to make sure everyone has fun and comes back,” says George.
The park property includes the Brave Indian Family course, which is perfect for youngsters as well as a self-guided nature trail. The park continues to grow in popularity as new guests discover it and former guests come back for more. They have become a “new tradition.” To prove their merit, they are now the highest rated Trip Advisor zipline in our area with over 200 five-star ratings.
