Brookings Anglers, long the go-to resource in Cashiers for all things related to fly fishing, now has a second location in Highlands at 273 Spring Street. Area fishermen will now have two locations to shop for fly fishing equipment and apparel, to book a guided trip with one of Brookings’ personable, experienced guides, or just stop by to share a fish tale or two.
Brookings offers a great selection of quality clothing for men and women from names such as Patagonia, Simms, Orvis, and Columbia. You’ll also find all the equipment and accessories needed for even the most discerning angler.
Not only can Brookings’ knowledgeable staff outfit you, but they also offer some of the area’s best guide trips. Their guides will help tailor the perfect experience that you won’t soon forget. Full and half day wade trips are available for groups or individuals. Their guides know what’s biting and where, so depending on the time of year you may fish the Tuckaseegee River, the Davidson River, a stream in Panthertown Valley, or any number of other small back country streams.
Brookings also has private water options that ensure a solitary experience in pursuit of trophy trout. They also do full day float trips for trout and smallmouth bass, combining the thrill of fishing with the relaxation of a float down the river.
If you’re new to the sport of fly fishing, Brookings offers full day fly fishing schools covering the fundamentals of the sport. You’ll learn the basics of casting, knot tying, where to look for trout, and basic fly selection, followed by an afternoon on a trout stream practicing your new-found skills.
