The 27th Annual Tour de Cashiers Mountain Cycling Event rolls through these mountains on Saturday, September 7, beginning at 8:00 A.M. from The Cashiers/Glenville Recreation Center on Frank Allen Road. Riders from across the South and beyond make the pilgrimage to Cashiers for this annual event. The fresh mountain air, incredible mountain scenery and rush of adrenaline afforded by the more than 10,000 feet of elevation change, make this race a favorite.
More than 300 cyclists dedicate their day to the challenge of one of several routes. For those who prefer a brisk morning run there will also be the second annual 5k race, which will run out and back from the Recreation Center.
Peak Racing Events has once again partnered to direct this event. Tony Hammett of Peak Racing explains the popularity of the event not only as a premier cycling event, but also as a 5K event that offers something for the non-cyclists who want to take part: “We have a heightened focus on the Cashiers 5K and the growing popularity of running events on the Plateau, and the Tour is pleased to host one of the local signature races. The 5K in association with the cycling ride offers the opportunity for riders’ families and friends to participate in the day’s activities. We look forward to seeing everyone on September 7.”
The support of local volunteers and sponsors is vital to the success of this event and Stephanie Edwards, Executive Director of the Cashiers Area Chamber of Commerce, is excited that, “Highlands-Cashiers Hospital will carry on its generous tradition of serving as the event’s Premier financial sponsor as well as continuing its significant commitment to the health and well-being of our mountain communities.”
