The Center for Life Enrichment’s August curriculum explores the rich possibilities found in 2022’s latest food and drink trends.

In the past, some associated theCenter for Life Enrichment with mostly intellectual pursuits.But wow – Look at it now! CLE’s got a curriculum chockful of cuisine and alcoholic drink how-to’s, revved up and ready to rock this summer!Pick your favorites from the following summer sessions. They will keep yourinstant pots, skillets, beverage glasses, and covered casseroles sizzling and singing:On August 1, from 10:00 A.M. to Noon, it’s The Cheese Biscuit Queen Tells All.Some Southern cooks keep their prized family recipes under lock and key, but not Mary Martha Greene.Why?She says that few things can truly be kept secret in the South andrecipes, like cheese biscuits, are meantto be shared.So many stories could bewritten about Greene’s Aunt Mimi’scheese biscuits – the countries theyvisited, and the lies, half-truths, cheat-ing, and conniving of small children(not to mention grown adults) to getthem.Martha, consummate entertainer,will lead a discussion, tell a tall tale ortwo and conduct a book-signing, whileyou sample her famous biscuits.This will be staged at the CLE LectureHall, and cost is $25 for CLE Membersand $35 for non-members.Bourbon Basics is offered from 4:00to 6:00 P.M., August 3. You’ll learn totaste bourbon like an expert when youjoin Louisville-based bourbon authoritySusan Reigler for a Bourbon Basicstasting.She’ll introduce you to whatsets bourbon apart from the other worldwhiskeys and to threedistinctbourbonstyles – traditional, wheated, andbottled-in-bond.You’ll also learn aboutthe fascinating history of each brandtasted and you’ll enjoy light appetizers.This will be held at a private residence,
and cost is $90/100. If you’re curious about the secrets of cleverbartenders, be sure to attend The Art ofMixology: Making the Classics with aSpin, 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on August 18.Modern classic cocktails are oftenderived from popular classic cocktails,but they have interesting twists iningredients that make them a newcocktail altogether.This will beoffered at the CLE Lecture Hall andcost is $60/70.If you’ve been hesitant to fullyembrace the potentials of the latestkitchen innovation, join CLE for InstantPot 101:Conquer Your Fear of PressureCookers, noon to 2:00 P.M. August 24.Learn to make the most of this timesaving small appliance. The class willinclude an explanation of how it works,what to cook in it, and recipes to takehome.There will be an overview ofthe Instant Pot’s controls and featuressuch assauté, slow cook and pressurecook, cooking times, and pressurerelease options.Learn how to makeSpicy Asian Pork, no-stir ground grits,broths, and dried beans in fractionof the time they would normally takeusing conventional cooking.This will be held at a private residence,and cost is $30/$40.Closing out the month is Unusual Wines,stretched out over two days – 3:00 to5:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 30, andWednesday, August 31.The first day will explore WhiteWines, and the second, Reds. It’slikelythatmost of us started our lovefor wine by wanting to experiencesomething new, something unexpected,and something a little outside of ourcomfort zones.This program is for winelovers who want to experience winewith fresh eyes. It’s for wine enthusiastswho believe that wine is a never-endingjourney, and that the wine world isendlessly abundant and generous.Thiswill be staged at a private residence, andcost is $60/70.
