It’s no mystery why the Cashiers Annual Antique Show has been a Red Letter Event on the Plateau’s calendar for the last 44 years. Find out for yourself August 5 through 7 at the Village Green Commons.
The Cashiers Annual Antique Show, August 5-7, at theVillage Green Commons in Cashiers offers somethingfor everyone – collectors, antique afficionados, andnewbies alike.Show manager Hazel Gilessaid she has been organizingthe show for 15 years, but shehas exhibited at the show for43 years.She said a mixed bag of peopleattend the three-day show.“Some people are just in lovewith antiques, like I am. Some might want to get many of theirChristmas gifts, or they may want to start a collection. Justshopping for antiques at a show like this helps those who are notfamiliar with antiques learn more about them…the historicalties. Seeing antiques from America and around the globe helpspeople relate to history and the changes that have occurredin different eras. The history of antiques is fascinating, and ithelps us understand our country and other countries. And to seewhat items and styles are tried and true and what things werediscarded or improved is so interesting.”The 44th Annual Antique Show takes place at the main build-ing that is part of the Commons, called Lewis Hall. An array ofstatuary, fountains, cast iron furnishings, and more will be ondisplay at the Garden Stone Art and Antiques, and two massivetents with interlocking floors will house 26 exhibitors showcas-ing a myriad of antiques as well. Plus, the Chips Away glassrepair station as well as Lost Antiqueswill be housed in the Pavilion.Giles added that “a lot of people comingto the show are collectors, but a lot areveterans. Some people even bring alist of needs and a measuring tape withthe intention of finding a piece to fill aspace. There are various reasons to shopfor antiques and ways to use antiques. They are not just forsitting on a shelf or in a corner.”Each of the show’s exhibitors offers different arrangementsabout pick up an/or delivery of sold items. Some smalleritems can be carried out.
