It has been said that you can feel the creative energy when you drive through the covered bridge of The Bascom. Surely, this comes as no surprise since there is an undeniable energy that resonates through the entire Plateau, evident in the businesses, non-profits, people, and communities. The Bascom knows this because we are very lucky to partner with many of them.
This year, The Bascom has expanded its partnership with Sotheby’s International Realty to curate a series of monthly Pop-Up Shops at the two Sotheby’s locations in downtown Highlands and Cashiers. Featured exhibitors include local and regional artists represented in The Bascom Shop and the Art League of Highlands-Cashiers. This collaboration allows both organizations to do what we love in different ways – showcase a visual narrative about what makes our area so very unique.
In August, during the Cashiers Historical Society’s Designer Showhouse, The Bascom was asked to curate a tent with local and regional artists represented by The Bascom Shop as an opportunity for entrepreneurial artists. This collaboration came from the understanding that art has many roles in our lives and that for many artists, their work is a means by which to provide and put food on the table.
Beginning in October, The Bascom will once again partner with the Highlands Performing Arts Center, offering three more movies from the “Great Art on Screen” series that was overwhelmingly supported by the community this spring. “Great Art on Screen” is a series of 90-minute documentaries featuring some of the world’s greatest artists. To bolster the atmosphere of community between like-minded art lovers, The PAC and The Bascom team with a different local restaurant each month, inviting guests to meet together after the show for dinner and art based discussions.
When we come together to utilize our unique skills and strengths in a unified way, synergy ensues. On this mountain, where so many incredible things are commonplace, synergy is magic. Magic like the feeling of walking into a real estate office and being surrounded by the visual narratives of the natives. Magic like living in a community that places great pride in its artists and longs for them to have entrepreneurial success. Magic like walking out of a movie knowing that you live in a community that longs for you to unlock the artist within.
