With the turning of the leaves, The Bascom: A Center For The Visual Arts announces two enriching, new exhibitions for residents and guests of the Plateau.
In the Bunzl Gallery from September 28 through January 6, The Bascom presents “Best of The West.” This exhibition aims to bring a light survey of art from and of the American West, showcasing artists from “Out West” and their work in painting, photography, and sculpture.
Highlighted artists and artwork range from the 1800s to present day and select works will be on loan from both The Booth Western Art Museum of Cartersville, Georgia, and The High Museum of Atlanta.
In the Thompson Gallery, The Bascom’s final exhibition of the year is the second annual iteration in a new series that seeks to create discussion about the transition of craft to art. This year’s iteration, “Craft to Art: Wood,” will be on display between October 12 and January 6. Woodworking and its many forms will be showcased in an effort to create a dialogue about its place in the fine art world, historical impact, and where the craft is heading. Curated by Anthony Ulinski of Raleigh, North Carolina, highlighted pieces will include turned wood, furniture, and contemporary sculpture.
The Bascom invites the community to the opening reception for both exhibitions on Saturday, October 12, from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. Light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be provided. The Bascom proudly offers free admission to all exhibition gallery spaces Monday through Saturday from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.; and Sunday from noon until 5:00 P.M.
