Every Saturday through the month of October, you’ll find local farmers, growers, and artisans at Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park for Highlands Marketplace. It’s the ideal place to shop for the freshest, most nutritious foods around. From 8:00 A.M. til noon, vendors will have their tents and stalls set up for your shopping pleasure.
There are many reasons to shop at the Marketplace, but everyone has their own motivation. If you’re someone who really cares about the quality of produce, it’s a no-brainer. You get to meet the folks that planted and harvested your greens, potatoes, berries, and beans. They’ll tell you when they picked their produce, even how it’s planted and farmed. You don’t find that kind of personal attention when buying a cellophane-wrapped bag of spinach.
If you’re looking to try new things, you’re in the right place. If you head to the park in search of broccoli or tomatoes, you may find they’re no longer in season. And guess what? You get to try something new! Expand your menu with a bag of golden beets or French radishes.
Highlands is known for its flowers and gardens, and thanks to the market, you’ll be able to find some beautiful fresh flowers to use in your home. They’ll look perfect with the art you’ll find there on Saturday mornings. Artisans of all types are available to share their talents with you and it’s a great place to do some gift shopping, too.
If you have children or grandchildren, let them come along as you shop to get a whole new perspective of where their food comes from. They love visiting the different vendors and watching all the people who start their weekend with baskets filled with fresh eggs, baked goods, and honey. If you want to bring a pet, please make sure it’s on a leash.
Highlands Marketplace is held at Founders Park on Pine Street in downtown Highlands Saturdays from 8:00 A.M. until noon, May through October.
