As the Highlands community prepares for the reflection and generosity of the holiday season, The Literacy and Learning Center wishes to express its profound gratitude for the pillars of support that allow its mission to thrive: its dedicated volunteers, its faithful donors, the governance of its board members, and the students and families it serves.
The past year has demonstrated, yet again, the transformative power of local commitment. TL&LC’s free, comprehensive educational programs — from Pre-K to After-School and one-on-one tutoring — are made possible by the quiet, consistent dedication of its volunteer base. These individuals give countless hours, often working one-on-one with students, providing the focused attention and stability that builds confidence and academic success. Without their selfless commitment, the Center’s robust curriculum and personalized support would not exist.
Equally vital is the philanthropy of the Highlands community and the dedicated governance and stewardship provided by the Board of Directors.
As a non-profit, TL&LC relies heavily on private funding to keep its doors open and its programs tuition-free. Every donation is an investment in the future success of Macon County’s youth, covering everything from classroom supplies to technology and essential administrative costs.
This continuous financial support, combined with the Board’s leadership, ensures that TL&LC can provide a foundational advantage to every child and adult who walks through its doors.
Finally, the most significant source of gratitude comes from the students and their families. Their unwavering commitment to learning, to showing up, doing the work, and embracing the challenge of education is the true testament to the Center’s impact. The success stories, the improved report cards, and the growing excitement for literacy are the ultimate return on investment for the entire community.
In this season of giving, The Literacy & Learning Center team thanks everyone who contributes their time, resources, and trust. The Center remains committed to fostering academic achievement and building a stronger, more literate Highlands for all.
