That’s How Rotary Rolls

The Rotary Club of Cashiers Valley may be small in number but their impact within the community is huge. It’s all about service, both locally and globally.
A visit to their website tells you just how far their reach extends.
Rotarian Bill Mobley has embraced his membership with all the zeal of a man on a mission, which he is. He decided last year one of his goals was to increase donations to the already existing C.A.R.T. Fund. C.A.R.T. stands for Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust. Members are encouraged to leave their spare change at meetings to help support this fund. Mobley has taken this one step further. He has asked his fellow club members to pledge to support him as he hikes all 135 miles of the Bartram Trail. By enlisting these pledges, as well as those from friends, family, and other Rotarians, he hopes to see a significant increase in the amount raised for Alzheimer’s research by the Rotary Club of Cashiers Valley. He began his hiking last summer and has almost reached the end of the trail.
How much has he raised?
“I’m not really sure,” he answers. “I prefer to leave the fundraising up to the treasurer and president, on my behalf. I told them I’d get the hiking done if they do
the administration.”
Another member of note is Justin Souma. Souma is currently the youngest member of the Cashiers club and says he joined this group after he moved to Sapphire. He’d attended meetings in much larger cities but they seemed to focus on business networking.
Souma says, “I’ve always been involved with volunteer organizations and the meetings here are so much different than others I’ve been to. The first meeting I attended they started talking about all the various service projects they were involved in. The Cashiers group is much more personable and the members are constantly trying to find ways to help the community, like the winter coat drives, food drives, and scholarships. The Rotary Club of Cashiers Valley is very, very focused on making sure the Cashiers area is constantly improving, through service to others.”
