Cashiers Valley Preschool not only values academic learning but also embraces the importance of play in developing young minds.

Play is essential for young children’s development in all learning domains such as social, emotional, gross motor, fine motor, language and cognitive development. When you see a child using pretend play you may just think it’s all for fun, but it’s learning, too!

Beyond the classroom, play also nurtures creativity and independence, allowing children to explore their own ideas and interests in a safe and supportive environment. When children are given the freedom to choose how they play, they begin to develop decision-making skills and a sense of autonomy.

Whether they are building a structure with blocks, creating art, or inventing a new game with friends, they are learning how to think critically and solve problems on their own. These moments of exploration are just as valuable as structured lessons, as they encourage curiosity and a lifelong love of learning. Play also provides an opportunity for teachers to observe and guide each child’s individual growth.

Through play-based learning, educators can identify strengths, support challenges, and tailor experiences to meet each child where they are developmentally.

This approach ensures that learning is meaningful and engaging, rather than one-size-fits-all. It also helps foster a positive relationship between teachers and students, as children feel supported and understood in their learning journey.

As CVP gets ready for Summer, we are focused on play, play, play! We are so excited to be partnering with local businesses and community members throughout June and July to make this Summer unforgettable! We are lucky to invite Sweet Caroline’s Ice Cream Truck, Kona Ice, the Cashiers-Glenville Fire Department, and the Jackson County Police Department to join in on the excitement this year. Little Rascal’s Pony rides and petting zoo and Professor Wizzpop’s magic show will be coming to CVP in July for the first time ever!

The students will also enjoy Fun Fridays where they get to play in bubble foam, water days, and bounce house jumping.

At Cashiers Valley Preschool, play is not just an activity—it is the foundation of how children learn best. By blending intentional teaching and traditional learning values with hands-on experiences and meaningful play, CVP creates an environment where children feel confident, capable, and excited to come to school each day. As summer approaches, this focus on play becomes even more vibrant, offering children countless opportunities to explore, grow, and create joyful memories that will last far beyond the season.
