I’m looking out the window of The Village Green office. It’s January 15, 2026, 8:04 A.M., and it’s snowing. As an early riser, I’ve been here since 7:30 A.M., and I truly love this time of day.
It’s serene. Quiet. Beautiful.
Since my first day in November of last year, I’ve had the joy of “waking up” with the Cashiers community. I watch neighbors pull into the parking lot, leash up their beloved fur babies, and head out for a stroll on the Green. Some mornings, I stop by Duck Hawk Provisions (for their delicious coffee), Buck’s, or Starbucks for coffee and breakfast.
Other mornings, I head straight in, eager to get started before the gentle “bustle” of our small community begins.
While winter offers many a much-needed pause, a chance to catch our breath after a busy season, I’ve been quietly using this time to plan for the year ahead.
Each spring brings a fresh beginning to our village landscape. And even though the daffodils are only just starting to peek through the ground, it’s impossible not to dream about what’s to come: vibrant blooms, flourishing gardens, and longer days spent outdoors.
Even the marketing algorithms seem to know we’re craving spring. Suddenly my social feeds are full of chicken coops, composting tips, and seed-sowing tutorials.
I find myself thinking, “This is the year my garden will thrive.” Or maybe it’s finally the year I get chickens. Or, more ambitiously, goats or sheep. I can practically see my husband rolling his eyes already.
All joking aside, springtime in the mountains is truly something special. The slow, gentle awakening of nature invites us to do the same. Animals stir, insects buzz back to life, and buds bravely announce new beginnings. And much like them, I’m stepping into a new beginning here at The Village Green.
I hope you’ll join me this year as we celebrate treasured traditions, seasonal blooms, hopeful gardens, and the moments that turn into lasting memories.
