  Learn about the gourd banjos of the Carolinas and Caribbean, the cigar box banjos from Cuba and Florida, the early minstrel banjos and the orchestrated banjo bands of the late 19th century.  We will also show open back, old time banjos of the Carolinas and Virginia and banjos of the 21st century.  Enjoy the voice, beauty and history of this fascinating and ever-evolving American instrument. Presenter: Mary Z. Cox holds multiple degrees from Florida State University and has played banjo since she was 12.  She has recorded 10 CDs, plays concerts and festivals, gives workshops and authors banjo and  dulcimer instruction books.  Her music has been played on NPR, on Pandora World Music Genome and the BBC.  She has taught claw hammer banjo at the John C. Campbell Folk School as well as at camps and festivals nationwide. Mary currently participates in the FSU Irish Music Ensemble. Cost: $25/$35  Coordinator: Duane Meeter
