Amandla, the vocal duo of Lori Ann Christian and Oliver Nathan Greene, present an educational and entertaining program of their own arrangements of jazz standards from the 1930s through the 1960s. The ensemble’s name “amandla” is the South African Xhosa word for “power” that was used during the anti-apartheid movement. In memory of the struggle and perseverance of all African people, it is the group’s mission to educate and empower audiences through exposure to music of various cultures and genres. The program will feature memorable tunes by George Gershwin, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer, Burt Bacharach and others. Common and little known facts about the composers and their music will be shared with the audience. Cost: $25/$35 Coordinator: Ed Mawyer
