Description

The known facts appear simple enough: When President Jefferson Davis and other members of the Confederate government fled Richmond, Virginia, on April 2, 1865, under pressure from Advancing Federal troops, they carried with them gold, silver and other valuables estimated to be worth more than $1 million in then-current dollars. When Davis was captured in south Georgia some six weeks later, he had only a few dollars in his possession. Where did the money go? Thus begins the story of the “Lost Confederate Treasure” and the saga of treasure seekers, legends and myths. Presenter: William Rawlings is a physician, author and world traveler. He was educated at Emory, Tulane and Johns Hopkins Universities and is the author of five novels and three works of non-fiction focusing on Southern history. Cost:$25/$35 Coordinator: Ed Mawyer
