Zach Claxton is a self-taught artist, who was born in Virginia and grew up in Atlanta.
His interest in art dates back to his youth, where he exhibited drawing skills and began working in oils. He completed a few landscape paintings that drew attention to his talent. The demands of college, military service and a banking career interrupted his painting avocation for many years. After retirement from the bank, he and his wife relocated to Highlands, in the western North Carolina mountains.
Working exclusively in oils, his subject matter is varied, and his landscapes were soon joined by waterscapes, still life pieces, architectural and figurative work. His representational style continues to evolve as he explores new techniques and subject matter.
