Not Out Of the Woods – Residents Urged to Take Covid-19 Seriously

As we get through this second (or third?) wave of Covid-19 on the Plateau, you may be wondering about the situation at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital and Angel Medical Center in Franklin.
“Highlands-Cashiers Hospital has one lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 patient as of 8 A.M. this morning,” says hospital spokeswoman Nancy Lindell. “At Angel, we’re treating five people who are Covid-positive.”
Ms. Lindell stresses that though the local caseload is still light by national standards, residents must take the threat of Covid seriously.
“We are asking everyone to be diligent in wearing a mask, waiting six or more feet apart, washing your hands and to go out only when necessary,” she says. “At Mission Hospital in Asheville, which is part of the same health care provider network as Highlands-Cashiers Hospital and Angel Medical Center, our number of Covid patients has more than tripled since the beginning of November and we ask the community to help stop the spread.”
We here at The Laurel have reached out to Harris Regional Hospital to learn about their caseload and bed situation, but haven’t heard back yet.
