Cashiers Historical Society’s 29th Annual Designer Showhouse, open through September 5, comes together through months of planning, coordination, and hands‑on work by volunteers, craftspeople, and designers. The Showhouse remains CHS’s signature fundraiser, supporting its educational programs, publications, and the preservation of its historic campus.
This year’s stunning home is set at Cashiers Lake, where restoration efforts and thoughtful planning are shaping a private community centered on walkable paths, gathering spaces, and a future Lakehouse amenity for dining, wellness, and lake activities. The dwelling blends mountain vernacular architecture with modern sensibilities — a contemporary Appalachian retreat defined by warm wood tones, abundant windows, and a purposeful connection to the surrounding landscape.
Designed by Thomas & Denzinger Architects, constructed by Turnkey Construction Group, and landscaped by Tate Landscaping Services, the Showhouse offers visitors a glimpse of serene lakeside living with easy access to the varied offerings of Cashiers.
Inside and out, designers have added thoughtful touches to the home’s modern mountain aesthetic. Several imaginative spaces highlight how the Showhouse encourages both creativity and livability. The gear room was envisioned as a place where outdoor enthusiasts or artists could keep their tools close at hand — a nod to the home’s proximity to Cashiers Lake and its inspiring natural surroundings. The events barn showcases furnishings selected to balance practicality with elegance, creating a welcoming environment for gatherings. On the terrace and grilling porch, designers leaned into outdoor living, incorporating cabinetry engineered for the elements and a palette inspired by the landscape’s rich browns, warm taupes, and layered greens.
Together, these spaces demonstrate how the Showhouse evolves each year, offering fresh interpretations of mountain living while honoring the region’s character.
A full slate of programming accompanies the Showhouse, including lectures by design experts, craft, cooking, and gardening demonstrations, a bourbon session, a book signing, and more — all designed to enrich the visitor experience and celebrate the creative spirit of the Plateau.
